Formatting/Installing with USB input devices?

I now have a KT7A motherboard which has decided to not work with a PS/2 connected keyboard.

What i now want to know is what can I do if I need to format and re-install my system?

As far as I know USB devices are only recognised in the windows environment?

Any advice?
 
You shouldn't really have a problem. Most modern motherboards support USB at a low level.

If you look in the BIOS do you see a option like USB Dos Support (or something similar)? If so, just enable it. If you don't see that option, check you have the latest BIOS version.

My secondary machine (an old Athlon Slot A with an Asus K7V KX133 mobo) is running with a USB keyboard just fine. My main machine (Athlon 1.4 with K7AMA mobo) is running with a USB Intellimouse. Both machines are able to access the USB devices from DOS.

It's just that I only recently moved over to USB input devices - the first being an optical mouse - which gave me a rapid lesson in keyboard commands while re-installing the "My Toy" system below! 😉

So if I enable the "USB Dos support" function this will allow the mouse and keyboard to be recognised in Dos as well as "safe mode"..?
