Formatting DVD-RW help

I recently purchased a new DVD+-RW drive and it came with a blank DVDRW disc. I want to burn data onto the disc but it has not been recognized. I have NERO 6 and cannot find any option to format the disc and I have also downloaded the fully functional Alcohol 120% and cannot find any option to format the disc. Also, in Explorer, when I right click on the DVD drive there is no "Format" option. Any tips on how I can format this DVDRW? Thanks.

For DVDRW (assuming they are like CDRW) you just burn the disk regularly, use it, then re-burn it.

If it's a brand new RW disc, formatting is unnecessary.
To erase or format. In Nero, load the Nero Burning Rom program, click on RECORDER, then ERASE REWRITABLE DISK. Fom there you can do a quick or full format (I always choose quick format).
