Formatting an HDD

It appears that after tech support help from both Linksys for my 4 port router and 3Com for my Eterlink card, I can't get access to the Internet. Reloading Windows 98SE is no help.

So, it's reformat my C drive?

Are there any web sites that show you how to do this step by step and what one has to do before reformatting the drive?
Anyone done before and lessons learned?

Thanks,

Ed

I can tell you anything you need to know. 🙂 Just give me a PM and I will send you some instructions.

But I am just gonna tell you this will not fix your internet problem. 🙁

Remy:

What's a PM? I am wits end about the Internet connection. I have two other PCs off the router and they work fine. Should I try to install another NIC card?

Ed

Well if the router works fine for the others then it must be the computer....

First if you have it setup and is not working try other ports on the router. This will allow use to totaly rule out the router.

Can you see the other computers on the private side of the network?

Is the only problem, you can't get out of the router?

Are you using DHCP or your own settings?

Finally what type of NIC are you trying?

And a PM is a Private Message. You can send them to people and they will recive them in there PM inbox. So for example if you want to discuss something with only one person you can use PMs. Also I like to use PM as a reminder. For example I told you to send me a PM if you wanted the instructions. The only reason to send a PM is so that I don't forget to send them to you! 🙂

Have you tried to remove everything tied to the network and removing the network card, boot, shut down, network card back in, install everything again.

if you're on high speed, call up tour provider and tell them to clear your ARP table or whatever they call it..basically have them clear the mac address they have binded to your house. I have rogers, and about 3 times a year my file gets corrupted on their server and I have to call them to delete it and start over.

yeah try that...i doubt that reformat will do anything.......all networks stuff has to be resetted in order for them to work...i have to do it all the time everytime my cable company changes my ip address...it's no biggie really....

PM = private msg..see the "lock" log on the top right of each dude's post?...click on that...and send away
