Formatting a Hard Drive with a different Xp registration

I would like to know if this is possible with out a major conflict with the OS.

My daughter left her old PC at home, she lives about 350 miles away and
I wanted to reformat her old hard drive and set it up using my XP pro system
so she could use it as a slave drive for her new system.

I am still waiting to hear which version of XP she is using, home or Pro.

Do both drives need to be fat 32 or ntfs or can they be set up differently?

Will the slave drive work in her new system after I format it with mine OS?

Her system is a Dell, that is all I know.

I am trying to do the work now since I have time available, then I can just hand her the drive to install when I see her.

Thanks for your help.

yeah the drive will work fine her system, even with it being formated in your system. You can setup either drive as fat32 or ntfs. They dont have tobe the same. But it recommended to use ntfs though.

So you just want to put her old drive in your machine and use it as a data drive? If so, just format it NTFS and use it there's nothing in there that ties the drive to one machine or another.

If you're just formatting it, it doesn't matter.

They can be whatever filesystems you have support for in the machine, by default with Windows that's FAT and NTFS.

Sure, but it won't have Windows on it so it won't be bootable any more.
