Formatting a drive

Is there a way to get everything back on a drive after you format it. I formatted my secondary drive thinking it was my friends and I lost my digital pictures. Thanks.

provided you don't read or write to the drive, it's possible to retrieve data but at a high cost!
what value do you place on your pictures??
