Formatted PC and reinstalled XP pro

Formatted my PC and reinstalled windows today but now my IE7 locks up on me. It seems to do it with sites that have some kind of activex controls that need installed, although it did happen when i tried to click a link to a pic on pics.bbzzdd.com (or wtf ever the site is called).

I have Vista installed on another partition but that shouldn't cause any problems, should it?

hmm...i may have fixed it.

It always locked up when I went to the MS update site. I read on another site to see what add-ons might be installed so i did that and skype had 2 things installed for IE7 addons. i disabled those and i'm able to use the site. i'm assuming right now that it was one of those 2 or both that caused it.

XP Pro is like 7 years old, isn't it?

Maybe it's time to upgrade... 😉

to what? vista is too young. besides, i bet a majority of people are still using XP.

Vista has had it's driver's license for a while and is old enough to vote. Make the mover brotha!

I have a "trial copy" of vista that i installed yesterday and there are no vista drivers for my ethernet card. plus i keep hearing bad thigns about it, so i'll wait. not only that, but its expensive as hell.

Actually the versions equivalent to what your running on XP are the same price as they where with XP. That said (directed to others) jumping into a thread about a bad browser extension and telling the OP to change operating systems is bad form.

<redacted>

In his second post, the OP stated he had fixed the problem - an epilogue, if you will.

'We' were just adding final comments, for the sake of discussion.

It was NOT meant as a personal insult - at least, that was NOT my intent.

Anyway, point taken... 😉

Vista HP would be nice - roughly equivalent to XP MCE - except Vista HP works better! 🙂

One of the nice things about Vista is it's self-tuning and self-healing, so you won't have to format your PC and reinstall Windows all the time, like prior versions of Windows...

A couple of things...

I've been running W2K Pro on several of my machines for years!

Not only do I STILL hear bad things about W2K Pro, but Microsoft is STILL updating it on an almost-monthly basis, sooooo don't let that bother you!

Also, I was just looking up Vista-ready 10/100/1000 LAN cards (for my network) and you can buy them on eBay for $3.99 +SH right now... 😉
