Hi everyone -
Running an epox 8k9a2+ in win xp with 2 30gb in raid 0 with os on it. Then have a dvd-r on the master and a 40gb on seconday ide 1. I have been doing a lot of hd data transferring, and have all of my media on the 40gb drive. After a few months on this setup(have used this drive for a year or so), my system locked. I restarted, and then when i tried to access the 40gb drive, i get the message "the drive is not formatted, ...". In bios, the drive is recognized fine. Also, in dos mode, all of the data is still there. I downloading maxtor - powermax to see if the drive has errors. Most of the media is backed up, but id like to get it all transferred over to a new 60gb drive. I would just hate doing it in dos, since all the filenames would get cut. Anyone have any suggestions, while i try powermax? Thanks all

i had the same prob a couple years ago. drive would not work in windows at all but DOS was fine. you could try re-importing it through the disk management control panel in computer management (had to do that once or twice). if that doesn't work, dos it is. dos 7 should be able to handle the long filenames tho.

powermax says no drive errors... how would i use dos 7? transfer in command prompt? lastly, would maxblast help, if i repaired the boot sector? it doesnt appear that it was tested using powermaxx. thanks all

lastly - using the disk management utility, the drive appears, with no file system and all the space free. I am unsure how to re-import it, since it is already there, while not losing the data. Thanks

Get the data ASAP. Just use DOS. Getting the data is priority #1 filenames can be reentered. Try fixing what you have after you ahve a reliable known good reliable backup that won't flake out on you.

thanks all -
data is off of the 40gb and onto the 60gb drive, now i have a lot of filerenaming to do

also i have most backed up on dvd-rs so that is good.

back to the task at hand....anyway to get this drive to be accessable in win xp? thanks

well - the data is there....found it using the demo of getdataback. Anyone know of a good freeware utility i could use. not about to spend $90 to recover stuff. Id rather rename the files in dos. Thanks
