Formating drive after running dual boot

I was running Vista 64 on a 1 TB hard drive (C: ). Then I decided to install Windows 7 on a 500 gb hard drive ( D : ).

I have had them dual booting for a while now. However, I have decided to format the Vista drive as I never go into it anymore. I have already removed the stuff I need/want, what do I do next?

boot to win 7 and format the vista drive, put win 7 disc into tray and restart and go into setup and choose repair, reboot.

That's one of the problems, it will not let me format the drive with Vista on it, it keeps telling me it cannot do it.
