Format Zip Disc on Old Mac?

Hello. I realize this question is a little bit of a long shot, but here goes:
I have a Zip 100 disc connected to an old macintosh computer that I need to format to the apple filesystem so that certain things with it can work. I am using Mac OS 8.6. Can any of you suggest a means of doing this? Does anyone know how?
Thanks in advance.

What happens when you try to write to the disk? I have never used a mac, so I don't know. I guess there should be something somewhere in the system settings or properties. Does it have a control panel menu or something you can look in?
