ok just used fdisk to set up my dad's new hd, using the directions on ssdohj's guide to fdisk. Problem is i cant format the new drive. My dad is using win me on a new computer from dell. at the a prompt, i type "format d: /u" but it gives me an invalid command reply
tried it at the d prompt also. Anyone got any ideas?

by the way its a 40 gb maxtor drive, the gay ass floppy provided with the hdd did not work, it would lock up after it scanned my system, and the menu that tells me what the driveblast can do.

After you Fdisk you cant use the /U command.

Use the regular format X: and it will format.

The /U unconditional switch only works if there's a formatted partition allready made & since you Fdisked there is none.

Just do a regular format & you'll be fine.

tried that now, does not work. at the a prompt typed in "format d:" did not work, tried it from the d prompt too and no luck. anything else?

got it working, called tech support, it told me to furn "dg text" to run the maxblast stuff in a text like way. formatting now...

yeah dude, format isnt a part of command.com, you have to have the format.com file on the disk. its really its own program, not a dos command. (although it is that, too)
