Hey guys,
right now i need some big help, i used Gpart to make new partition, so i could install vista and on the other partitions i have XP on , and i need to get the xp docs out but cant because of securit on those docs. The real issue is that with Gpart i made like 3-4 paritions, and now i want to turn them all into one main partition and thats it. no more partitions as i want to format the partitions that have XP on it after taking the data out and then combine it all back to the orig 160gb, how do i do that ?
its a bit confusiing
thanks alot !

If you want to merge partitions, backup your data first, delete the partitions, and recreate a single partition with the size you want.

If you are asking something else, may be you can ask it more clearly!

thats pretty much it

OK.

1- Backup your data.
2- Delete the other 3 partitions you do not want.
3- Resize the remaining partition you want to keep to occupy the entire drive.

ok dont get it
i have 4 partitions currently, i only want to keep 2, delete the other 2, the ones i want to delete have NO data on them at all, i simply want to merge them into my main partition thats all. How can i do that using GPART
Thanks

You have to clarify what you do not get!

Here we go again:
1- Boot to the OS partition you want to keep.
2- Copy all the data you want to keep from the other partitions to the one booted.
Now, everything you want to keep is on a single partition.
3- Use GParted to delete all the other partitions.
Now, there is only one partition on the hard drive with all the data you want on it, and some unallocated space.
4- Use Gparted to resize the remaining partition to take the entire hard drive.
Now, you have only one partition on the hard drive as big as it can be with all the data you wanted to keep on it.

I am so sorry, the part i DONT get is that how to make it work in GPART, i dont exactly know how to work it straight, the way it was listed was Part 1, then Boot part, then second part (i wanna keep) and 3rd and 4th.
