Format ext3 partition on Linux

I use the command to format the partition mke2fs dev/hda1
But this command doesn't work

How can I format ext3 partition?

mke2fs -j

"j" being for journal, of course. Capital "J" lets you specify the journal size if you're picky

Got the error message

[root@localhost sbin]# mke2fs -j /dev/hda7
bash: mke2fs: command not found

It should be there somewhere unless you did a custom install and left out e2fsprogs. Try "locate mke2fs" - it should be in /sbin, but maybe it ended up somewhere else. Or perhaps your $PATH is messed up.
