So, we get a formal invitation in the mail yesterday from the sister/brother-in-law of the husband. It stated something along the lines of our presence being requested, to celebrate one year of marriage between "blank and blank." Since when did people start having formal events to celebrate a 1-year anniversary? And there is nothing on the invitation about gifts, so one can only assume it's not required but preferred. This is 7pm-until event on a Saturday night later this month, but no real dinner is provided. Just says heavy hor'dourves and cake.

I've been invited to engagement parties, which I felt were a bit unnecessary but a one-year anniversary party really raised my eyebrows. Anyone had or been invited to one?

Well, I guess with the divorce rate so high, one year is quite the accomplishment. But yeah, I felt it was odd and a little self-serving.

Maybe it's just an excuse to have a party or get everyone over. Sometimes it takes an "event" to get people to gather.
