Don't you see?

Here you are trying to attack and shame me... call me a drunk.

Now, Imagine if you had my liquor store receipts...

Or the pictures of me driving away from said liquor store.

LOL, I said forgot. It should have said Forget!

Anyway, welfare is fine if it's used to help people momentarily. The problem is people end up on welfare for generations. I also know people who game the system. They have no ambition to do better. As long as that monthly check comes in they are happy.

I also know people that game the system. Some of my best friends, game the system.

As I understand it, we have thousands of kids entering America, to game the system.

Something is wrong.

Possibly the system.

How many people? Enough to warrant taking away that safety net? Or is the cost of them relatively nothing compared to so many other actual money-squandering effects of government? Hey there, latest fighter jet project!

This strikes me as envy of those afflicted with sloth. Think about that for a moment and then appreciate your ambition and sense of self-worth that prevents you from being one of the people who would somehow be satisfied with a nothing life.

The facts do not support your claim. Sure there are exceptions, however they aren't the rule .

Why cant we put these welfare recipients on some unused midwest land and let them farm and grow shit to survive?

that takes work, something the welfare recipients dont like

and you cant exactly force them to do it because well.that didnt work out so well for joseph stalin when he tried it

Farming takes a hell of a lot more than simply a work ethic. It takes specialized knowledge. If we dumped you on some empty land how long do you think it would take you to homestead 40 acres or so?

And Stalin tried to make Soviet welfare recipients farm empty land and it didn't work? When exactly did this happen?

Last night in the checkout at Costco we watched a Somalian woman purchase about $100+ in food (food, technically, since she was buying Doritos, chicken nuggets, and other convenience items) while yacking away on her Samsung Galaxy S5 tucked into her burqa. For some reason her EBT card wouldn't work. The cashier tells her the card is being rejected to which the woman immediately begins giving the cashier attitude.

So the Somalian woman reaches into her Coach purse, fishes out her wallet, and digs through her wallet. Finding nothing else to pay with, she tries using the EBT card again with the same result. Realizing what the card is, the cashier tells her that not all the items in her cart are groceries and that's why the EBT card is denying the purchase. The woman sighs loudly, pulls up her sleeves, exposing some nice, gaudy rings on her fingers, and grabs the non-grocery items from her cart so the cashier can cancel them.

I can't wait to file my taxes this year in which Uncle Sam will tell me I owe probably another $3,000 on top of the tens of thousands I already paid so we can get more people on food stamps so they can spend their money on nice cell phones, jewelry, and purses rather than those pesky food costs!

I have to say that The minimum wage jobs I had in life were some of the worst work I've ever had to do. If my job now paid the same as a minimum wage job I would still keep it without batting an eyelid.

You ain't kidding. I'm serious. I moved from one bust ass job to the next, each time I made a move, I got paid more and worked less. Isn't that the American way?

I know you righties are ignorant people, but could you at least try to come up with a new story?

Good point. It confuses me when people seem to be jealous of that lifestyle.

I don't know about his story but if you want to see what really happens, get a job as a cashier at a grocery story. I did (at Kroger) for a year and was truly shocked at what 'some' of the people on assistance were able to get. But, at that time, I didn't see cell phones and the likes because they weren't available. I do know people (in my wife's family) that do not work, draw SSI and food stamps yet do have an iPhone and other stuff (my wife shows her posts on Facebook every day) like that.

That reminds me, one of these days I'm going to have to give up my LG VX8300 flip phone (7.5 years old) because it will lose service over the next few years because of reallocation of signal bands. (sarcasm because I don't have an iPhone).

In where I live once you get accepted for welfare and government services you can still make roughly $30,000 per year and keep your benefits.

It's crazy, but they are trying to allow everyone to have some sort of benefit.

That's due to the rising costs of living; most benefits go to people who are employed.

OT (but along the same lines)...my boss runs a food bank and states the same thing. Said that the overwhelming majority of people who come in to get food work one (or more) jobs but just don't make enough to make ends meet.

That's their fault for not getting better jobs. /s

That reeks of "I got mine!" denial.

Do you think that people won't take better jobs if they can get them? If those better jobs even exist?

Those "better jobs" do not exist in sufficient number to serve the needs of the people. That's because the means of production have become sufficiently advanced to force many into idleness. Modern American capitalism feels no compunctions to employ Americans. Quite the opposite.

The only thing that's really scarce in this country is open slots for decent jobs. All other issues are issues of distribution of goods & services.

I apologize, Bryce. Missed the sarcasm tag. I think we agree on this, just have different ways of expressing it.

You assume her circumstances are not & never were subject to change.

It's quite stupid in a highly convenient & judgmental way.

Guess what? Food assistance has become a necessary part of the economy. Not just for the recipients, but for the providers & everybody else as well. That won't change unless the Jerb Kreators! change their ways.

Reality. Deal with it.

Guess what? A Samsung Galaxy S5 is worth a lot of money. So is a Coach purse and jewelry. Obviously the individual wasn't willing to part with those things to purchase food and would rather receive government assistance. I remember selling LOTS of things when my wife and I were poor and supporting a family.

And, uhh, so what?

Sell everything you own before you'll accept assistance?

I think that's a nice way of digging yourself into a deeper hole. Just think where we could all be if everybody had done that in 2009.

Well, maybe you think 1931 all over again would be a great idea.

For everybody like the woman you mention there are a lot more who have kids to feed & shitty jobs to do it. They have shitty jobs because that's what the economy provides, at least for now. Those kids are America's future, too.

Yeh, yeh, yeh- we all like to think we're special, that we got where we are through some combination of circumstances that didn't involve luck at all. Lots of bad luck going around, lots of people beat down by circumstances beyond their control. Food assistance turns that luck around, if only a little bit.

You dont have to force them.

Kill welfare.
They will either starve to death or take the jobs.
Or riot. But without food their riot will collapse fairly soon. The survivors will have to suck up their pride, ask for forgiveness, and then do what everyone else has to do for food: Work.
