Forgot to turn on monitor using Windows XP

Well, today I forgot to turn on my monitor until windows XP has already started to load..so I guess now I need to throw this computer away and start over.

Or use 4 bit 640x480 forever..

Is there a reason why Microsoft and/or Nvidia can't create an operating system and/or video drivers that can deal with a simple problem like this ? I mean, Jesus, there are gigabytes and gigabytes of code..

Soooooooo, what's the problem here? As far as I know, forgetting to turn on your monitor before you turn your computer on should cause no problem whatsoever. Just turn on the monitor. You should see what you would normally see.

Well, that isn't what happens, in my case anyway. Depending on when I remember to turn the monitor on, I either get the right resolution and color depth, but the wrong refresh rate; or I get 640x480 with 4 bit color.

And it's impossible to fix it by just changing the settings back to the right ones. Other color depths, refresh rates, and resolutions no longer work, switching to them does nothing.

Only way I figured out to fix it was to reinstall the Nvidia drivers, which seems pretty silly to me.

Anyways, I'm just ranting about it because it seems incredibly stupid, I get ready to do something productive and end up wasting a bunch of time dealing with something that shouldn't happen.
