I neglected to remove the battery from my ThinkPad when I installed a new stick of RAM. So far as I can tell, my oversight has not affected my laptop. Is it premature for me to breathe a sigh of relief?

Shouldn't really have messed anything up unless of course you had it turned on while installing. If it doesn't seem broken it probably isn't.

If it turns on and all the memory is detected, you're fine. If it got botched, you would know already.

There is a small chance the residual charge from the battery could have caused errors on your chip. You should run memtest86 for 24 hours just to make sure.

(just kidding, you're fine)

If the system was off (with the on/off switch) you're good to go. I do it everytime.
