Forgot to include postage on a small package. Will it be retuned?

I just remembered that I dropped off a small package in the mailbox without postage. What happens now? Will it eventually be retuned (if so how long.) Or can I kiss it goodbye?

Did you mail it from a mailbox that is serviced by your own post office? If so, it should be returned. If not... maybe, maybe not. Not sure what the policy is on that. I'm always paranoid about mailing stuff from work with my own return address for that reason.

It's a postal box that about 20 neighbors on my street use. It has a drop slot for outgoing mail. The mail does indeed get picked up and dropped off by USPS.

Assuming you had your return address on it... You could always jsut call the local post office and check with them. They might just hold it there.

Yes they will definitely plan on returning it. I was soo ticked off the other day when I mailed a normal envelope that had a UPC (MIR) and I got it returned saying it needed 3 more cents. For 3 more cents they routed it back to the city and into the drivers hands and onto my doorstep. Morons.
