Forgot the BIOS password to my laptop :(

I put a BIOS password on my laptop (a Sony R505 "SuperSlim") a while back... After I graduated, I didn't really need to use it, so I put it into its original box and packed it away.

I'd like to get it running again if possible, but now I've long forgot what the hell I set the BIOS password to...

I tried taking the laptop apart, and found the BIOS battery located beneath the touchpad. After disconnecting this for a few minutes, and reassembling - the date and BIOS settings are lost, but the machine STILL HAS THE PASSWORD on it! WTF?

I know it's a really stupid mistake, and as a matter of fact - this is the first time i've found myself in this situation. :( I'd really appreciate advice... thanks!

Yes, I own the laptop! (here's a copy of my receipt, 250kb)

Give Sony a call- I know that on, for instance, Toshiba laptops, there's two small contacts you have to bridge with a screwdriver for a few seconds. I wouldn't be surprised if there's something like that on the Sony, or they may be able to supply you with an over-ride code if you show them your receipt.

Good luck, and let us know what worked - always useful to know!

If you are the owner, you should have no trouble getting help with it from Sony. Doing a Google search may also turn up something.

I know with HP you have to ship the laptop to THEM! Dont know about sony though. Its probably the same procedure tho. They have to make sure the laptop is yours before they go and remove bios passwords...

Edit: You might even have to pay to get it done... expecialy if its not under warrenty
