EDIT: Oops. . .Hit enter too quick the first time!

Call a crane. This what happens when you drive a 735 Timberjack track loader into 20-foot-deep mud. This happened to my dad's logging crew.

Uh-oh

Uh-oh again

This is a huge, 75,000 pound plus piece of equipment. It took three days to get it out.

Actually, close to 40 tons. It took 3 huge excavators and 2 dual wheel skidders 3 full days to get it out. They were doing "swamp logging", where you have to stay on top of huge wooden mats to keep from sinking in the mud. This guy drove off one of the mats. There are other pics, but these are the only one I have access to right now. Please excuse my slow response--I type kinda slow.

What did the salvage operation cost in relation to the equipment value?

I think I would have been tempted to say "OK, you keep it."

I know why they labored so long to get it out; those things cost upwards of $250K apiece!

Well, there's no official amount spent on it. It was just the lost productivity of the rest of the crew as they had to spend most of thier time for 3 days to get it out. It actually wasn't hurt--they pressure washed off the mud, re-primed the fuel system, and it was fine. Yes, this equipment costs ~$300,000, and insurance is probably about $30,000 a year, because of just these kind of things. . . .
