it's not that over the top. there's far more extreme things out there. branding leaves horrible scars though, too hard to heal properly. scarification/flesh removal can leave some nice marks.

I was referring more to home-branding your girlfriend as opposed to paying someone professional to brand you.
Or at least voluntarily branding yourself.

Tattooing (branding of the skin with ink) is ok because it's socially acceptable but branding with a hot iron isn't because it's not socially acceptable. Both deface and scar the body.
