Nah, it can't compete Game engine is based on the older Command & Conquer engine. I did like this game a lot but, the RTW engine is completely new.

10,000+ units in full 3d combat (each individual unit with its own AI) I wouldn't be surprised to see a new lord of the rings game based on this engine.

totally different type of game, also most people I know who play FPS games
could care less about RTS & RPG's. It does look nice though .

You can make another post when we see the multiplayer numbers for Rome Total War, Doom3 and HL2 over the course of multiple years. I've got a hunch that more people will be playing HL2 and Doom longer than Rome Total War.

Let me know when Starcraft 2 comes out and I will agree with you

I agree that more people will buy and play HL2 & Doom3. This of course doesn't necessarily make them a better game. I will be playing all of these games as I like FPS as well as strategy. However, when I want entertainment that requires brains more so than a quick finger.... give me Rome Total War.

Or vice versa. I know a lot of ppl that will play alot longer RTW than HL2,Doom3

Yup looks great though...

Myself I've become a purely multiplayer FPS lover... even single player feels "dull" to me...

I used to love RTS (AOE!) but nowdays I cant play one for more than 5 minutes...
