Apparently, some delinquents in San Francisco, bereft of bovines to tip, have taken to tipping Smart ForTwos, like some absurd, real-life version of the tractor-tipping scene from Cars. Witnesses told KRON-4 in San Francisco that eight people, wearing hoods, were responsible for tipping three Smarts. While the vehicle above was tipped on its rear hatch, the other two were tipped on their side and roof, respectively.

"All of a sudden I just see eight hooded figures walk up to the car," witness Brandon Michael told KRON. "I thought it looked like they were up to no good. And then sure enough they walk up to this smart car right here, all huddle around it, and then lift it up and set it on its hind legs."

They've been doing this in Europe for ages. In Holland, they used to push them into the canals. They only weigh about 1600lbs because the body panels are plastic.

I can't believe peoples are still buying the Fortwo. It's hands down the worst car I've ever driven. There's just absolutely nothing good about them. Plus you can get much nicer cars these days for the same prices, more space, and the same fuel economy.

It probably has some basis in reality somewhere back in our agricultural past, but it sure as hell is not easy to tip a cow, and since they don't sleep standing up it's probably not wise to try!

Smart (Mercedes-Benz) employs a 1L, three cylinder engine made by Mitsubishi. It churns out about 70bhp, or about 0.04hp/lb. The absolute base model sells for $14,800 here in Canada. For that you get the usual basic features. Power locks & windows, 5 speed "auto", AC. It's a two seater and has very little usable cargo space.

One of my favourite city runabouts, the Fiesta (SE model for the sake of comparison), starts at $16,675. It's a little more expensive. Comes with a 1.6L engine putting out 120hp, or about 0.5hp/lb. Bolted to a 6 speed manual. It comes with all the same stuff as the Fortwo plus voice activated controls, bluetooth, and stability control. It's a four seater and has a decent sized trunk.

According to the EPA, the Smart gets about 34mpg city and 38 highway.
The Feista gets 29 city and 39 highway. Highway is probably better due to the additional gear.

Now, here's the catch, the Smart's engine is high compression, and needs premium fuel to prevent knocking. The Fiesta takes regular. Meaning that despite having slightly better mileage, the EPA estimates the two cars cost exactly the same to gas up. About $1650 based on their average. The Smart also needs synthetic oil, which bumps up maintenance costs.

Compound that with the Smart's rough handling, jerky transmission, and plastic body. It's just not worth it. The car is an absolute joke.

I agree completely. I think the smart car should be, at the very most, half the current price to even be an option worth considering. A Soul or a Rio might be EPA rated for less, but for around the same price, you get so much more.

It would have been funny, if the owner of said car got upset over something and flipped his own car. There is nothing funny about a group of assholes vandalizing someone else's car because they dislike it or simply because they can.

If someone is performing any action that can be agreed upon that they "should be shot in the back of head" for doing, it isn't comedy.
