Damn

Dozens of foreign ISIS brides are being sentenced to death in Iraq as the country exacts its revenge after three years of jihadi occupation.

Pleading that they themselves are victims, the women were given 10 minutes to beg for their lives before judges decide their sentence.

Many of them find little sympathy with the Iraqi judiciary and locals and are despised for their support of their militant husbands, who tore the country apart between 2014 and 2017.

French citizen Djamila Boutoutao, 29, appeared in court last month and claimed: “I thought I had married a rapper. It was only when we arrived in Turkey for a week-long ‘holiday’ that I discovered my husband was a jihadist.”

“I’m a victim. My husband beat me and locked me up in a cave with my children when I refused to follow him (to Iraq).”

One part of me is like, man, this really sucks for the ladies. The other part of me is struggling to feel any sympathy for them whatsoever. They chose to travel to a foreign country with husbands hellbent on destroying it, and they're now surprised that the tables got turned on them? Sorry, but I don't buy the whole victim card.

Yeah, I mean if they were legitimately tricked then that sucks but I have my doubts about how many that really applies to.

The ME in a nutshell, even when we're on the "winning" side it's a good idea to question why we should be on any side at all since they're all pretty much terrible.

Law? Lol

Sends a message that if you take up arms against us we kill your family.

Well good thing we helped a culture that supports killing the innocent to send a message. Ironically that's the same thing ISIS did.

Honestly guys, it's useless to even debate the ethics of whether or not to punish the wives of these soldiers. The fact is, these wives are in a foreign country where the laws are not predicated on being innocent until proven guilty, and where women have fewer rights to begin with. Arab law in general is more concerned with achieving the "appearance" of law than anything.

You want Iraq to turn into another Somalia?
Also, does that mean all American troops that went to Second Iraq war and their family should be put to death?

They did not commit any crime, why should they be punished?

Look at North Korea where they punish three generations for any crime. You commit a crime, your kids & parents & your kids' kids are locked up. Not every country has a prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment, and many of those interpret it much differently.

OTOH look at the USA where our government recently undertook a policy of deliberately seperating children from parents in immigration cases. Inhumanity is not exclusive to other countries.

Kind of like ISIS did? So if they are killing the children, too, I presume you're fine with that as well? How does this make them any better than ISIS?

Why would I think it was fine? The Middle East is stuck in the dark ages by and large.

You seem to be able to determine what is inhumane.

Iraq just survived a slaughter if not a genocide. I view the wives as being treated similar to Nazi camp guards. The parallel seems apt.
We (the west) put Nazis to death, did we not? Iraq is doing the same to ISIS.

Nazi brides were not summarily executed.

Only the leaders in most cases not the grunts.

If they were proven to be active participants, sure put them to death. However, the rule of the law must be observed. Iraq is fragile enough with rule of law.

Western ideals in the Middle East, yeah, that'll be the day.

Only the leaders in most cases not the grunts.

Right, I think their standard for execution is much lower than ours.

You didn't say what you thought. I'm just presuming you would be fine with it given the content of your posting here. You don't seem to care about innocent people being killed.
