I really think that Ford has a winner on their hands with the new F-150. It'd be nice to see how the Titan really stacks up to it in the real world

http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=6668

Ford Motor Co. is putting some incentives on its Ford F-150 but it also plans to increase the production of the top-of-the-line SuperCrew pickup model.

George Pipas, a Ford spokesman, confirmed that Ford is boosting production of the SuperCrew models at its Kansas City truck assembly plant. In addition, both the Kansas City and Norfolk assembly plants have completed their acceleration and are now operating at full speed, and have scheduled overtime to keep up with demand for the new F-150 pickup truck.

Looks like people are all over the high buck Super Crew model. More profits for Ford.

how come they are applying incentives on it when the truck is selling like hot cakes? I heard it broke the previous F150 record (which is frigging high as it was).

The Titan obviously won't sell as well (that's a given..Nissan USA said they didn't plan on that happeneing either).

I predict the Titan will do all the "trucking" stuff just as well as the F150 , but have a few comfort-related things that will turn some (or most) buyers off. In terms of not having the 5 billion different options that the F150 has..Titan won't have those many options.

That commercial of the F150 with the truck being held up by its bed is pretty cool.

I heard the FX4 and Lariat editions are selling quite well. Over at F150online.com, about 75% of the 04 owners all have an FX4 Supercrew

I was also reading an article in the paper about how dealers were complaining about not having rebates. They all said F150 sales were very good; however, they said with some rebates sales would be out the roof. The only thing stopping them is Chevy's 5500 rebate with powerpacks and some of the Dodge rebates. This should help sales though.

All in all I don't see Titan as a big dent to Ford - seems like it'd take away more from Dodge/Chevy than Ford

B/C dealers are complaining the lack of rebates are hurting sales. Yes, sales are good, but they could be destroying the competition if rebates were in effect.

yup, but it's also kind of logical isn't it?? that Titan sales would take away from the slightly older dodge and chevy trucks vs the all new ford f150, which is by all accounts a better than average product.

but then Ford would be reducing their profit margin per truck if they sold it for a lower cost. So the added sales might negate the profits made per truck?

I don't know much about it, but I'll say this: The new F-150 is not an attractive vehicle.

compared to what??

the TITAN exterior wise is MUCH uglier than the F150 if you ask me.

The old F-150. The ones from a few years ago. The new one just looks blocky or something. They probably aren't targeting it at me though.

Maybe compared to this, but I think that the new F-150 is quite handsome.

That is true. I was speaking from the dealer's perspective. I know Ford has a goal of 1 million F150's for the 04 model year. I don't know if they have ever hit that mark or they ever will, but the rebates can do nothing but help reach that goal.

I disagree, I think as far as looks (which do not matter to true truck people) I think it looks great except for the Ford oval in the center of the tailgate. But the new frame and bumped up triton are very nice.

My biggest negative about it is it's engine compartment is still tiny again :(

Best engine compartments go Sierra/Silverado > Tundra > F-150 > Ram my guess is Nissan will shoehorn theirs in too :|

So many idiots here in Texas drive these gaz-guzzlers as fashion statements. 95% of them have no real use for a pickup truck.

Yea, I was just throwing that in b/c Brandon mentioned the Titan in the real world. It seems like a cool truck and the first real import competition, but it just seems like it has no chance. When I think trucks, I think American. Their goal is about 100,000 for the first year and a half, which is about 5555 trucks a month. Seems doable.

I don't think of it as a Titan vs the F-150

I think of it as the 44 vs the 8.8 ;)

That has a funky front end.

Call me stupid, but I like the way the Dodge Ram from a few years ago looks. I also like the 80's Ford Rangers.
