Ford recalled my cruise control. Won't have the part until January '08???

Ford had a problem with my cars cruise control catching fire. So I get the recall notice and call my local Ford dealer a couple of months ago. They tell me they will have the part in 2 months. I show up to have it installed and they say they won't have the part until January 2008. And they need to disconnect my cruise control for safety reasons, which I let them.
WTF? They guy at ford told me the fix is just basically a fuse they will put in. He can't understand why it will take til January. I called another Ford dealer and they say it's true, the part is not expected til January..
I wonder if this is normal? Or is Ford just not really trying?

Otherwise I love it. It's a 1999 Ford Explorer with 80,000 miles in mint condition. I only use it in bad weather (4x4) for work, or to lug around a lot of computers. It has never let me down.
I LOVE my cruise control.
And I MISS it.....
