Ford Raptor recalls/repairs/reliability?

I am scheduled to turn in my work truck for a new one this year. I requested a Raptor 'cause I figure if I can get my company to sponsor my mid-life crisis I can save a bundle. Okay, I actually want the Raptor because so much of my job is done on nasty back roads and sort of vaguely road shaped stretches of rock, dirt, and sand. Anyway... my manager was good with getting the Raptor but headquarters types were a bit leery stating that Raptors were already demonstrating higher than average repair records. I did some searching around and found one mention of a freeze on sales while Ford replaced a module of some sort (I couldn't quite figure out what the module was supposed to do).

Has anyone read good/bad things about the Raptor with respect to quality?

Next: Should the Raptor be a no go, what's the next best off road capable truck in the half ton class made by GM, Ford, or Chrysler?
 
Id imagine they demonstrate that because the entire point of the truck is to beat the shit out of it. You can only engineer those things to a point, even in SoCal all the ones I've seen are caked in dirt.

Probably an F-150 FX-4 or whatever the comparable Silverado is.

Not doubting you have seen them, but I didn't honestly think anybody bought the raptor. If you're into hard core off road I imagine building a truck is cheaper (assuming you can sell the stock parts at good prices) and if you do your research you'll have a more capable vehicle. That said I know there are plenty of mush heads who just want a truck for the image, they'll buy whatever they can get that looks good off the dealership lot (and finance 100 %) instead of storing the truck in a garage, in pieces, while aftermarket parts are bolted on over the first several months of ownership.

As far as reliability, I'd say the raptor is average or better in it's class, but that doesn't mean much since it's really the only truck in it's class. The Ram Power Wagon is tremendously excessive, but not really a truck comparable to the Raptor.
 
wow that dodge truck costs nearly $50K! I did not realize how expensive trucks have gotten. It is probably a great truck but that is a high price tag.
 

By "busted tranny" you mean, of course, "needs one solenoid replaced and the software updated" and not "the transmission when 'splode."

If memory serves the Raptor's only mechanical differences from the regular F-150 are mainly in suspension, which is why you need it. Being designed to go off-road it will survive the abuse of off-road driving longer than a plain vanilla F-150.

All vehicles have gotten more expensive. I've read somewhere that the average selling price of new cars in the USA is around $29k. I remember some time in the early 90's when I read that the average was around $19k.
