My "83 4x4 is still on the road.
Tranny gave up at 330,000 miles.
Engine (2.8l) bit the dust at 300,000miles
Cheap common parts

There are several "Ranger" boards around

also, my dad has owned two Rangers, one lasted for 423, 000 miles with the original engne, tranny and clutch, and the other lasted for 350,000 miles, original everything. My friend has an 88 Ranger with 170,000 miles, but a new engine after his sister in law drove it with a cracked rod. Right now I too am looking at a Ranger, a 1995 with 88,000 miles. I would be disappointed if it didn't last me to 250,000.

My buddy has a 1994 Ranger 4x4 with 190K miles and just had his first major repair. He was having shifting problem between first & second gears and waited too long to have me service the problem, vacuum shift control valve, which caused his second gear band to break. He can still drive the truck but has to shift it manually from 2nd to 3rd gear. He is saving his money for another transmission.

If it's a 3.0L V6, that is the best V6 engine Ford ahs ever built. :D

I have a 94 ranger manual 2.3L 4 banger. It has 115,000 on it and it still runs pretty good. I'm not the easiest clutch user and it's still fine. If you can't find 'em, grind 'em. I'm not sure how much grinding damage the 2.3L can do anyways.

Depends, I4 or V6? 3.0L or 4.0L? 2wd or 4wd? Stick or auto?

Answer could range between 18MPG on the highway to 25'ish MPG on the highway depending on those things.

I've had a '93 (3 liter, manual, 4x2) for about 2 years now. I bought it at 100,000 and have put on another 22000 since I bought it. The engine is still in fabulous shape. I had the clutch and slave cylinder replaced about 8 months after I bought it, but the transmission is in otherwise great shape. Other than that I've had no major repairs (just minor stuff like tires and brakes). I get 20-25 mpg (depends of whether I've got the a/c running or not) with regular city driving.
