I saw a commercial on tv yesterday for the stripped-stripped down Ford Ranger for 9999 before TTL. As far as I can tell, that's without AC, without Cruise Control and without a lot of features, but I can't help but wonder:

Are power windows standard on the Ford Ranger now?

I can imagine this being a good vehicle to get into if my car were suddenly to explode because of the incredible price, the reliability of the ranger, the great fuel economy it should get in its most basic engine configuration and the warranty it should come with out the door...

Why I am asking this:

I was riding my bicycle this weekend when the lever in the cartridge that lets you pedal freely backwards and then locks in so that you can pedal forwards completley gave out, putting the final fork into my 8 year, ~12,000 mile bicycle.

If something like that happens to my car anytime over the next few years (it's already 8 years old with 100k miles), I'd like to know what my options are, that's all. I thought this was intriguing.

Depends, Ive had a few Rangers and they have been great, but for 10K your almost close to a basic Honda, which will without a doubt outlast the Ford.

Do you want a pickup or car?

Where on earth can you get a basic honda for 10K?

I always thought the only cars you could get under 15 were kia's and the other korean/vietnameese cars?

I really don't want a truck at all actually... I'd like to have 20-25k to put down on a roadster.... but cash is tight and my back is up against the mortgage. I'm just evaluating other options.

You can't get a basic Honda for 10K.

Why are you considering another car if you're financially strained as-is? Is your car on its last leg? Maybe instead get a different Ford that you actually want, they're desperate to sell and IIRC offering 0% 72 months.

I wouldn't go for the stripped down version.
You have to at least go for the XLT model.
I had a 97 XLT; not sure what they are like today, but I know my 97 still had manual locks, windows, etc..
It was pretty damn nice though for a $12k vehicle.

That's pretty much before haggling, too. It's $15000 MSRP plus there is $4400 in rebates right now.

A dollar sign would have been helpful in the title of this thread. I thought someone had posted satanic symbols (number of the devil) upside down.

Now is the time to buy a Ford, if you want one. But frankly I wouldn't buy a $10K truck if you're in financial strain unless you need it.

Damn...$10,373 over 72 months @ 0% is $144/month....:Q

Still, get a cheap Ford you actually want and use that as your DD? $144/month is almost pocket change, but I'd at least pay for something you want/can use. A $10K Ranger won't have 4WD or be able to haul much, so for those rare-instances when the avg person needs a truck it won't really be that useful.

$0.02

What do you win for buying a $10k used car? Do you have to buy it in September?

Actually, I would say most people would be fine with that truck. How often do you actually hit max. payload or tow 4,000lbs?

I use my truck all the time and I have never come close to either.

What?

the great fuel economy

I have a 2002 Ranger that gets me a whopping 15mpg. The new ones get 24/29 which is pretty darn good, but there are better. For those of you interested, Ford stands strong with the Ranger frames they use and are not doing anything about how rough of a ride a Ranger is. Small bumps are tough, its not like riding in a GMC or what have you. Mine has a crappy sound system standard, but I hear they did something about that this year.

I have had the car since new and I've already have transmission troubles. I live in flat flat flat Florida and I'm not too rough with it. Granted its a 2002 but thats just a heads up.

I've been trying to find a dealership with that deal. What all came with it for that price and what dealership did you get it from? I'm trying to find one locally that can hook me up with that price.
