Ok, for those who dont know, Ford aquired Jaguar not long ago. Anyways, Ford also owns Lincoln. Well, it seems Lincoln is dropping the Continental line in the Lincoln division. (This was a rumor, a salesman told my grandfather who buys a new Conty like every year) And, if you've been following, seems Jag came out with an entry level model, the S type. Well...look at these links...
Continental
Jag S type

Well, looks to me like Ford Lincoln had a design for the new year Continental, but Ford decided to drop the Conty line, take the design and roll it out as a Jag to help boost sales in the new division. Does anyone else think this? Am I being stoopid?
I know its not a big deal or anything, it just bothers me that I might be right. It seems screwed up to buy a new line, then take your old line, drop a product and add it to the new line to boost sales...

Would Ford risk alienating the Jaguar buyer by having Jaguar producie Ford or Lincoln clones?

DEW98 is a completely different platform which is used for the s type, lincoln LS, ford thunderbird, and in another year, the ford mustang.

Are you sure? My mom's post-Ford Jag (XK8) was just as sketchy and unreliable as her 2 previous Jags (XJ-S)

Well, I wouldnt say theres a problem per se, more just speculation on my part. :) Basically, I thought the S type looked like a smoothed out Continental, so then went all Conspircay Theory and figured Lincoln gave the design to Jag so Jag could have an entry level car....

Aside from the similarities shared by most cars, I don't think they look all that much alike.

The hoods are very different, as well as the entire front end. That is what I could tell the most from the two pics.

Just my opinion........ I would have to see them IRL to give a real good judgement

The Jag S-type and the Continental have nothing in common. The Jag and the Lincoln LS are the cars that are mechanically similar.
