He noted that one can buy "some pretty impressive cars" for the armored Lincoln's price tag. "So they're not bullet-proof, but you know what? I'll be going so fast they won't be able to hit me," he joked.

It wouldn't have helped against RPGs, those things can even turn most armored personel carriers into flaming death traps.

BMW, Mercedes and others have offered this type of protection for a long time. It is considered useful for very rich execs who might be kidnapped, and people with very dangerous jobs or lives.

For those who need them, armored cars make sense.
