ford, gm merger?

given their losing market share and increased competition from the foreign manufacturers, would a ford, gm merger make any sense?
 
I don't think the FTC would ever allow it. They're loosing market share, but the percentage they do have is still a HUGE amount of the market.

I thnk the FTC or Justice Dept. would have a problem with it before the FCC would.

the ftc let boeing and mcdonnel douglas merge because of foreign competition. boeing also has a fairly sizable chunk of the domestic jet market. why wouldn't ford + gm be allowed?
 
I think they would fair better if they split up some of their companies and let them outsource other platforms for different designs. Or maybe even sale off a division or two.
