The opinion in Oz at the moment is that it is a far better car than the respective V8 kings from Holden and Ford.

And Ford Australia's build quality is supposed to be excellent now ;)

This is the FPV (ford performance vehicles) version

like the specs on the engine?

"ou can't help admire how effortlessly the XR6 Turbo 5-speed can outrun the fabled Impreza WRX and run alongside a 5.7-litre Commodore. Giving it just a gentle launch with two people onboard we hand-timed a 0 - 100 km/h sprint in 6.6-seconds."

Given that the WRX is sub 6 and sub 5 with PPP I fail to see how this can be true.

i did a bit of reading up on it and it looks like both at stock the WRX would just edge out the XR6 turbo, but you are comparing a large family sedan (very new as well) to a small sedan with long history of development behind it...

I know i'd prefer a XR6 turbo personally :D

or a FPV typhoon, have a look at the specs for that engine ;)

But you are also comparing a FMIC and roller bearing turbo equipped 6 pot to a TMIC four. :p

I like the V8 Ute's. I saw some really nice ones when I was there in 2003.

My next car will be an XR8 Ute ;)

Sigh...I can't afford an XR6. I was looking at the Commodore SV6 or considering waiting for the new platform that replaces the Mitsubishi Magna. I had my eye on the Magna VR-X until they changed to that stupid headlight styling and completely put me off....

What to do?

The problem Ford would have here in the states would be convincing Americans it's not another Contour.

Yeah. Looks kinda like a taurus/contour to me. The pic on ford's site makes it look like a volvo though.

I'd take it. Very quickly.

A fun, affordable 4WD, turbo'd daily driver? Sign me up!

Couldn't sell it as a Falcon in the US... That name conjurs memories of a car that is only memorable as the base for the early Mustangs.

But I thought Americans prefer a lard-ass vehicle like the Ford 500 instead?
