Ford Explorer's image on the rebound

the safety issues were caused by firestone tires.
I really like my explorer, i have the 2k2 model and it drives great, its convient to have soo much room to haul stuff, we just came back from costco and we would have need two cars to get evrything in one trip but the explorer has a lot of room in the back

Just like every other TRUCK they are only unsafe if they are not driven properly. If they are driven with the fact that they are a truck in mind, then they are safe. People who drive any truck like it's a 300ZX or something are just idiot drivers. The fault is not in the vehicle.

Actually, the safety issue was with underinflated or overloaded Firestone tires. IIRC there is not a single case of a tire that was both properly inflated and properly loaded experiencing a tread separation.

well since cars remain driveable (and usually the tire remains inflated) after a tread seperation i'm of the opinion that it was most probably the driver's fault. sorta like the guy that sued chrysler after his son was killed, he says, by the airbag. i think his son was actually killed by his dumb ass driving the wrong way down a blind road with his son unbuckled in the front seat.

First of all, the Firestones in question were under inflated. Why? Ford decided that rather than redesign the frame, they would under inflate the tires and loosen up the suspension to create a smoother ride.
Second of all the same tires are used on numerous other vehicles with little problems.
Third of all, last summer we had Firestone and Explorers, and this summer its Continental Tire and Expeditions. I don't know about you, but I see a trend.
i seriously doubt you could make an ikea run or haul 7 friends to the driving range to hit some balls in your sentra, suvs defintely have their uses. not everyone is a wannabe ricer.

well, i didnt want to get into this, but what the hell.
instead of making the suv good in any certain area, they made it suck in several.
hold less people than a minivan, less intirior room as well
less towing capacity than a truck, cant haul large things like a truck
sub par four wheel drive systems that suck compared to subaru's awd or vw's 4motion.
limmited offroad ability when compared to jeeps. (aside from that, who's taking a 40k SUV OFFROAD and risk scratching or god forbid, getting it muddy.
oh, they get great gas mileage too.
do i even dare touch the safety issue with them?

I like the redesigned Explorers a lot. My Dad returned his POS Lexus RX300, and I'm trying to get him to buy an Explorer.

Nissan's are such crap, especially their SUV's. Their cars are fugly and the reliability is awful. JD Power's 2002 Initial Quality Survey had Nissan ranked dead last, to tie with Volkswagen (ouch!). Ford's reliabilty was decent. Rallispec must be very brave (or very foolish) to go around ripping on the reliability of Ford's, if he himself is a Nissan fan. So why are you posting on this thread?

uh my suv holds 8 total, minivans hold the same. and it handles better then most, my moms oddesy is pretty nice but i like my explorer better
i can tow 8600 lbs what can you tow? (many trucks wont come close to that.)

have you ever been outside the continent, ive seen many beat up land rovers driving around, those cost more then 70k US
my v8 explorer gets the same milage that my roomates IS300 does. sports cars eat gas just as well
as for saftey when the garage collapesd in on those firefighter during last years 9/11 attacks they all jumped into an SUV which protected them from the cave in. If they could have even fit into a sentra they all would have probably been crushed.

That statement is so insanely TRUE. If anyone has driven an SUV of ANY brand, you KNOW they can haul ass with ease. In California at least, the number of women seen driving these monsters is HUGE. I myself also see ALOT of young highschool/college girls driving the newer Ford Explorers(daddy wants his girl to have a safe car). Obviously people driving high powered cars will be more subject to accidents, but I think alot of the people driving them are the real problem. SUVs are a great alternative to mini-van's simply because mini-van's are so g*y, people just need to learn how to be more carefull and attentive while they are driving these big cars.

What a MORONIC statement.
What makes minivans gay?? SUV's are NOT good alternatives to a Minivan. I have 3 small kids. u know what a hassle it would be to put all the kids in their car seats in an SUV. EVEN a large one. Rear Seat access is MUCH better in a minivan than in an SUV. If i need to haul stuff, my minivan w/ the car seats pulled out is 2nd ONLY to a pickup. SUV's can not even come CLOSE to the versatility of a Minivan for non OFF road stuff.
THE ONLY place an SUV is preferable to the Minivan is when ur OFF ROADING.
As to comment that SUV holds 8, that's only very large SUV's and those are MUCH larger than the minivans your comparing to. Given similar External Dimensions the Minivan's capacity is MUCH LARGER than an SUV's. Why does anyone even try and deny that.
