Ford Explorer Sport

Anyone own or have had a Ford Explorer Sport?
I am irrationally against spending $45K on a Ford but it is quick and comfortable.

My back has been killing me for a while now so I am looking to get something with an upright seating position. Next car would have been a coupe, as I do not need the cargo space of an SUV or truck, but I cannot find a car with a seating position that works.

Any other options to consider?

Have you looked at any full-size sedans?

Camry, Avalon, ES, GS, Accord, Genesis, 5 Series, E Class, A6, Impala, Charger - made a few trips to Carmax and sat in many models. A6 came closest but not enough to deal with the potential Audi headaches.

The Explorer is decent, but I would go for a Ford Edge. I have seen more issues with the Explorer than the Edge.
I work at a Ford Dealership.

If the seat won't adjust up enough in the rear, just put a shim under the seat back legs or rails, or put different seats in? Granted many unibody cars leave less wiggle room today but you might be able to literally put your pick of best seat into your pick of otherwise best automobile.

I really wanted to get the Edge but my head was hitting the ceiling with the seat adjusted up. I occasionally drive a Highlander and use a foam cushion which boosts my head to the ceiling too.

S5 or Cayman was supposed to be my next car! I plan to pick one up down the line if I can get my health in order.

I am going to look at the Durango R/T as I see the reliability is not that much different than the Explorer from what resources I can find online.

Does your head hit in cars without sunroofs? I know they are pretty standard now. I'm 6'4" in a Sienna without a sunroof (not that different than a Highlander), and I have a good four inches above my head. Hmmm, it may have something to do with my aged, shrinking butt.

That is a great suggestion. I considered the idea of a used minivan to tide me over. Preferably something I can resell in a year or two for a minimal loss.

Explorer sells roughly twice as many, so that's a possible reason for why you see more of them.

They're versatile and not too unwieldy. Mine and I'm sure all vans have pretty tight turning circles.
