and pre 2003 vipers look better. :D

Well, considering all the trouble Ford is going through to keep the GT40 light (CF hood, aluminum this&that, etcetc) the weight advantage would definitely mean a faster car... the new Viper is a pig!

I love it. Best thing Ford has done in years.

Perfect marriage between a GT40 and a 60's style Fastback (can you say Eleanor?)

Yeah, it is pretty friggin' heavy...even with almost 100 less HP, the Z06 can keep pretty close to it.

Yeah, the Viper is surprisingly heavy for a car with a plastic body and very little in the way of amenities or soundproofing. I guess in the grand scheme of things this is just as well, as it may reduce the number of fatalities among Viper buyers with more money than sense or driving ability. Absent some real skill in its driver, the Viper seems about as dangerous as, well, a viper.

Wasn't there running GT40 prototypes in the first episode of FastLane?

EDIT: My bad: it was a kit car of the original GT40, not the new GT

I didn't see the show, but there have been companies making replicas of the original cars for years, and I seem to recall that the original coachbuilder who built the GT40 racing cars still has a license to produce them. Found it - the guy is Holman Moody. He is in North Carolina - isn't that where NFS4 lives? Might be time for a field trip. Maybe while you are there he will show you the Ferrari 330 race car he has for sale on his Web site (for God knows how many hundreds of thousands of dollars).

Well, I guess nobody's perfect. I'll cut you some slack because you're and air-cooled VW guy though. :p

I'm glad that the GT is getting produced, it was a real disappointment when the GT90 was turned down. The GT is a better looking machine though, much closer to the original GT 40. I just want to know if they will be available with the classic "Gulf" paint scheme. :)

This has been covered. The original GT40 was built in the 1960's, well before Ferrari was making cars that look remotely like modern Ferraris (the GT40 also pre-dates the Miura). The GT is meant to look very similar to the original GT40 (a task at which it succeeds). It's more appropriate to say that the Ferraris and Lamborghinis are rip-offs of the GT40. In truth though, there are only so many ways to build an aerodynamic mid-engined race car with full bodywork. I mean, there's even a certain resemblance to the Porsche 917.
