Ford close to building Viper fighter in 2007

Good to see Ford doing something positive. I really wish they'd fix their Quality issues if they haven't already. I'm scared to buy a Ford until it's confirmed that their lower-end cars are up to snuff. 😛

The Cobra concept shown in Detroit had a 6.4-liter aluminum 605-hp V10 engine. Ford sources described it as a Dodge Viper fighter that could be priced around $80,000. The GT's sticker is $143,845, including a $1,250 destination charge and a $2,600 gas-guzzler tax.

oh boy.......

Thats more of a Ferrari / Porsche killer.

Though IIRC, the viper can hold it's own against them too... maybe not beat them, but run with them.

Ford GT is meant to do low 11's - the Viper is not. They're both fast monsters in their own way, but not meant to compete directly against each other.

Booo - that new "Cobra" is a disgrace to the real Cobra. Fugly.

That's why it got sent back to the drawing board. Hopefully Shelby can come up with something fantastic as opposed to the Oldsmobile powered Series 1.

that's awesome .... I love horsepower wars. 🙂

*wonders what the C7 Z06 is going to have under the hood

Not really. The GT, Porsche and Ferrari are a league above the Viper. While definately a fast as hell car, the Viper isnt in the same class. Granted, it could probably keep up nicely with some of those, but the Viper isnt geared as a Ferrari or Porsche competitor.

Why not just call it a Gaston Martin. Because that's the clearest design rip from an Aston I've seen.

But if it's cheap, I'll buy it.
