Forcing resolutions

I'm wondering if anyone knows how to force a widescreen res onto my 5:4 aspect LCD. I play AOE3 at 1280x1024 but would like to play it at 1280x768 in a window.

Any help on this greatly appreciated.

Will the game allow you to play in a windowed mode if you tweak it through an .ini or video.cfg file? That or if your monitor scales right you may be able to select it through your monitors controls, but I doubt it. Best bet would probably be to do the tweaking if you can to the game files.
