i ahve a pioneer 111d and the slowest i can burn DVDs with Nero, DvD decrypter or alcohol 120% is 4x.

Dvd decrypter will allow me to choose 1x or 2.4x but it still burns at 4x.
Nero and alcohol 120% dont even give me an option lower than 4x.

Is there a way to force any of these programs to burn at a slower speed than 4x ?

I've wondered how to do this myself, but I think the only way to do this is to modify the media codes for the particular media that you are wanting to burn. Nero and Decrypter are simply reading the supported burn speeds from the media and only allowing burning at those speeds.

Well what i do know from searching cd freaks is that i can try a hacked firmware for my burner.

But i'd rather not do that because once you start playing with hacked firmware there always seems to be a trade off in one way or another.

Seems "odd" that it cant be done in software.
