Forceware Drivers on PNY Verto GeForce 6800 GT

I have a SFF Shuttle SN95G5 with a PNY Verto GeForce 6800 GT graphics card in it that I got in January. A little later I upgraded to Forceware version 66.93. Ever since any time that I try to upgrade my driver version and try to run a Direct3D game I get a few seconds of gaming goodness followed by a second or two of utter lag time (and this is on single player; not mutiplayer). This process then repeats itself: no lag, lag, no lag, lag. I end up having to roll back my drivers to version 66.93 and then everything is fine. I have tried an upgrade every time a new driver version has come out and the same problem occurs. I am using the latest NForce 3 platform drivers; I don't change anything except my graphics driver when this problem manifests itself; and I can't find any references to other people having this problem anywhere on the Web. I feel that, since it is only me, I could have a piece of bad hardware, or, since the only thing that I change is the graphics driver, it could be some undocumented change in NVidia's driver code. Where should I turn (other than AT Forums)?
