Forceware driver question

Installed my evga 7800gt yesterday with the drivers that came with it, 82.12. The drivers on the nvidia site have a lower number, 81.98, but the release sate that is on there has to be newer then what came on the cd. Any idea why this is or which drivers should I be running?

The 82.12 drivers are beta. The 81.98s are WHQL Certified. The 81.98s came out in December but there was a small revision two weeks ago, that's why they have a later date. If I were you, I'd stick with the 82.12s; I've been running them since January and they are very solid.

Props to eVGA for including the very latest drivers on their install CD.

Yeah, it's neat, but shouldn't they be putting the latest official WHQL drivers on the CD? Don't get me wrong, I've never had problems with beta drivers but others may have. I am having great luck with 83.60s right now, but they are ripped from Dell, not official.

Well, I assume eVGA has had plenty of experience with the 82.12s since they've been out since December. Hell, the 82.12s are only one day newer than the original 81.98s. Now if eVGA were packaging their cards with the 83.60s, I'd have to agree with you.

By the way, how's the new Forceware interface on the 83.60s?

I don't know; for some reason it didn't get installed. I just used the one on the XG site. I have a menu item for NVIDIA control panel on my desktop that just doesn't do anything, but there's another with the name of my monitor which brings me to the same old control panel there always was.
