No they are for GeForce cards as well. Go to the NVIDIA website and click on the GeForce drivers and that's the page you go to.

Nope, the GeForce/TNT2 option still takes you to 81.98.

Would you recommend these over the 79.11's? I haven't been able to use any other driver version due to the shimmering in Guild Wars. I took your recommendation on the 79.11's, and they were awesome.

I just installed the 83.90's, but I still have blocky shadows in Far Cry. What gives?

I'd have to specifically look at shimmering when I get back home to answer that one. I know there is a ton of Moire on the mesh bridge in 3Dmark06 but I'm pretty sure that was the case with 79.11 also.

About the blocky shadow problem, I can't see any blocky shadows anywhere in farcry with these drivers, not on the gun or the ground. If you want I 'll post screenies later.

Yes, screenies would be good.

Avalon, I am also one of the shimmering haters. I also play GW and using the latest driver 81.98, set to AA 4x AF8 and Transp. AA for Supers., clamp, high quality - I can confirm shimmering is not an issue.

I can tell you also that I tried the X1900XT and shimmering was much worse (just like the X1800, which I tried also). The transp. AA implementation on Nvidia is much better - the ATI solution causes shimmering on the gates and fences, like on Ascalon city.

ATI might have better IQ quality, but I personally prefer the transp. from Nvidia and no shimmering (textures or fences, trees, etc).

I can't see any shimmering happening in the games I tested.

Here are some sample pics of the shadowing. I think it's a big improvement over previous drivers. You need to see the game in motion, not in still shots though, just like shimmering IMO. pic 1 pic 2 pic 3

It was a glitch on the site I suspect. Those drivers were intended for Quadro cards NOT GeForce cards, as the modified INI file points out. Yes it's just 1 file but the fact you have to modify it tells you it's not explicitly designed for GeForce cards.

thanks Gstanfor.

maybe i'll give 'em a try. the 83.90 from guru left a bad taste in my mouth so i figured i'd stay with the 81.98 but these sound pretty good.

Do these drivers bring anything new in terms of vsync support in SLI?

I think I can see the blocky shadows in those shots, actually. Although I'll need to try them out if Nvidia have actually mentioned this in the resolved issues list.

No, nVidia haven't mentioned farcry shadow improvements in release notes so far as I know. As I said above, I noticed a difference in shadow quality from previous drivers. I still think for a total fix the shadow problem will need a developer patch not a driver fix.

Anywho, I'll give these a try Gstanfor. You've done me good so far...wait, that didn't sound right :D
