This new driver addresses the dreaded GeForce 9800GX2 screenshot tearing bug in SLi and give slightly added performance. This is a strange driver. It has INFs for desktop and laptop cards and all Quadro files, so it supports just about every Nvidia GPU out there (no INF modifications needed). It is an International beta dated 03/19/2008 and the desktop INF already supports all cards GeForce 5 - GeForce 9.

Interesting, I'll have to try this out. I've been using their WHQL 9800GX2 driver for Vista64 and have noticed a few oddities, but nothing game breaking. Hopefully this resolves it.

I've tried the 174.70 & 174.60 & 169.44s, & i cannot set portrait mode for any of them!? :|

Either something's gone bonkers with my video card or display, or nVidia is suddenly abandoning portrait mode functionality on the newer sets.

I've tried 174.70 for Vista 64. The first game I ran was the Crysis, and noticed helicoptor becoming invisible, just like the Wonder Woman's air plane, under sniper scope.

Apparently these still have the UT2004 stuttering issue.

Honestly, these days unless you play Crysis there?s no point in keeping up with nVidia's drivers.

Yeah it seems it's not really wise to update your NVIDIA drivers unless you are having an specific problem, I can't get fixed aspect ratio scaling on Vista anymore on my widescreen, gonna try these drivers now see how they work.

EDIT: Arghh, it's not fixed, I hate this, I can't use Vista to play old games because I can't get proper scaling and I'm too annoyed with XP to use it right now (scaling works fine there).

I just installed my first 8800GT yesterday and noticed micro-stuttering on UT2004. I spent half a damn day trying to figure out what the hell was wrong. My Radeon HD3850 played fine. So it's an NVidia driver issue?

Is there an older driver that doesn't stutter?

Edit: Nevermind, this seems to be an ongoing issue with 8xxx series driver and XP since 2006 with no resolution. Shit! :|

Nah, PC gaming might suffer a setback or two but it just won't die. Look at the ole floppy drive for proof that some things PC never die! :p

You guys still play UT2004? I mean don't get me wrong, I was OBSESSED with that game for two years straight. But, isn't it time to move on to UT3 now? :)

UT3 sucks. They went a step backwards (or two) going from UT2004 to UT3, and there are many people who feel the same. The demo servers for UT2004 are still full. When they went from UT2003 to UT2004, the demo servers for UT2003 died quickly.

Do pray tell where is that setting hidden?

I can't find anything along those lines, & not being able to use my second display is driving me nuts.

Edit: Went back to the old 169.28 drivers that work.

Neither of the three aforementioned ones work in portrait mode, which worries me.

You guys still play <insert any non-recent title here>?

A sequel doesn't mean people stop playing the original. Also I wonder if people would be happy if other 2004 titles stopped working, games like Riddick, Half-Life 2, Far Cry or Doom 3.

I still play UT2K4. UT3 lacks many of the game modes that made UT2k4 so great.

Wow... where's nRollo? This isn't by chance any result of my previous suggestion is it?

All the UT after the original one sucked. Each version of UT after the first one (perfection!) was progressively WORSE then the previous version. Sure it got slightly prettier engine, but level designed deteriorated, gameplay deteriorated, and stupid new vehicles came about and made gameplay less fun.

In regards to the OP, this is just one more step in the beta process, it hasn't been released by nvidia, but it is accessible.

There you can get all the latest drivers as well as modded INF files to allow ANY nvidia card or chipset to install for them.

Could you try the new 174.74 BETA drivers and see if you think it's still there? Seems smoother to me with little or no stuttering. Can't tell if the only "stutter" that I had was from cable internet or was from the driver. I played offline and it did not stutter.

Thanks

Edit: It still seems to stutter. Sorry folks! :(

Saw a new setting, Maximum Pre-rendered Frames. My install defautled to 3.

"Increasing this value can result in smoother gameplay at lower framerates."
"Reduce this value if you experience a delay in response to input devices.."

I have no input device lag, any reason to play with this setting? Anyone experiment?

yea i've seen the same problem. nVidia doesn't seem to care to fix it as they haven't released anything official to fix problems (or improve gaming performance) in over 3 months for the 8 series.

I thought the stuttering was corrected with the new 174.74 beta driver but it wasn't to be...yet. :(

SLI scaling seems better in the games I've tried thus far.
