Forceware 169.04

First off, here is the link:
Forceware 169.04 Drivers

Secondly, my experience....

Using the CPU and GPU benchmarks included with the Crysis Demo....

Disregarding the first run of four for caching reasons, and averaging the 3 other runs:

Forceware 169.01:
CPU - 31
GPU - 33

Forceware 169.04:
CPU - 33 (increase of 6.45%)
GPU - 35 (increase of 6.06%)

An overall increase of 2 frames per second on average, resulting in an overall 6.25% increase in performance.

The numbers may seem small but I think this is a good indication of what driver optimization is capable of.

What settings and resolution did you use? I'll test this one as well to compare.

At 1920x1080 with settings on High, except shadows on Medium, I get about 22.5 fps or so with 0AA/0AF for both tests with 169.01.

I notice a good boost with these drivers over the .01 betas.

I can actually run at 1900x1200 now under DX9!

I've got all the settings to 'high', but I set shadows to 'low' and shaders to 'medium'.

It's still pretty slow, but it beats running at 1440x720 with 'medium' textures.

I'm running an 8800GTS 320mb, overclocked, on an Opteron 165 overclocked to 2.4ghz with 3gb of ram.

I had the exact opposite experience - I slow down from .01s to .04s.

(Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz, 8800-GTS640 @ 600/1004, 2GB)

------------------

I was doing some testing with the GPU looping and decided to establish a "baseline" of 1024x768 with everything on low.

With the .01s, I got 75 FPS
With the .04s, I got 65 FPS, a huge drop.

I guessed perhaps this would only take effect on very low settings for some reason, and I was right.

However, increasing things to all medium, increasing resolutions, etc. always resulted in being about 1 FPS slower using .04s They never outpaced the .01s.

Unfortunately, I still get the "frosting" effect on vegetation when my shaders are set to medium or low, whether I use .01 or .04 drivers.

Resolution @ 1900x1200. Settings all Very High, except Shadows, Post-Processing, and Sound which are set to High. SLI disabled.

I'm not running FRAPS so can't give exact FPS, but can definitely say performance greatly improved with 169.04. I was running 169.01 with the same settings and was getting horrible stuttering for several seconds, then crashes. Sometimes the game would freeze at the intro EA screen or the Demo disclaimer. Now, it runs extremely smoothly with no crashes at all. I'd say somewhere around 25-35 avg. FPS.

On a side note, I have noticed OC-ing my GPU (630/1500/975) has a big effect in this game. Unfortunately, I can only use one of my GTXs at this point. Conservately, Figuring a 25-30% increase from SLI, I should be right around 40 FPS avg. when the game is released 😀 Com'on SLI fix!

Edit: I'm running the x32 bin. Have had crashing running in x64 mode.

Are you still getting artifacts Cheex?

I am. Was getting artifacts with 163s, 169.01 and 169.04.

Yes I'm still getting artifacts.

That's with my GTS 320MB both at stock and OC'd.

169.04 brought down my ET:QW scores by ~15fps. I then un-installed, driver cleaned, went to 169.01 and the scores went back to what i was expecting, and was actually 2fps faster than the september drivers i was using (167.xx or whatever it was).

I'm surprised no one posted this before, but apparently these newer drivers introduce cheats to boost Crysis performance. There's a discussion about it at B3D with a link to an article examining the issue. Just when I thought we were past the whole cheating fiasco...
