Who's this Ferguson Shooting fellow?

I'm note even fucking kidding- I've heard something about blah blah someone was shot somewhere, and that's as much as I know. And I'm proud of that shit. I will not watch news anymore, what with the whole 'not news' aspect.

Taking pride in not knowing stuff is literally ignorant. There's a clear difference between keeping up on current events and memorizing every detail of the same repeating story for days/weeks.

OP lives an interesting world. He wants to watch the news, so his first choice is cable TV. Then he resorts to short wave radio, and complains about it on the Internet.

Ignorance of world/current events in byitself is not a virtue.

Consider yourself lucky. I happened to be driving through podunk USA many years ago (only a few radio stations available) and most were just airing was the OJ Simpson "chase", for hours. I ended up just listening to country music, and I don't even like country music.

With all the publicity every time a black person dies, are the news networks secretly trying to elicit more hate against blacks?

Seriously, every time a black person dies because of a white person, news networks will report violent riots, looting, and other crimes all day long.

It's almost as if the news is conditioning people's mind to automatically think of violence, looting, riot as a means to a solution when you think of black people.

Um. That's the point. There are no current events on television. There is nothing but bullshit. It's not 'throwing the baby out with the bathwater' or some such, it's 'throwing the heap of shit out with the heap of shit.' There is no redemption in popular 'journalism' in the US.

I said nothing about 'ignorance' other events. Simply the one I have zero interest in learning a single thing about.

Where I am, the more tolerant and educated whites are basically one and the same with the looters/rioters. They like to feel enlightened by identifying with the plight of the poor black man being preyed upon by racism and hate (strong sarcasm with that last bit). Dear god, the shit I had to hear out of people after the Trayvon bullshit.

The flipside is the actually hillbilly racists who probably have Fox as their only 'news' source.

Basically, no, news coverage of this isn't changing anyone's opinions on anything. At most, it makes the 'white guilt' crowd feign some extra incredulousness because they think it will make them seem like superior human beings.

Someone holding a gun to your head?

Can't recall but a few minutes of it over the weekend when I was watching.

Rocket science this is not.

Rocket science must come easier to you than reading.

watch news

watch news

watch news

Allow me to try again. Let me know if any of the words are too big for you.

I KNOW NOTHING OF THIS CASE. BECAUSE I DO NOT

WATCH

NEWS

You may add the infererence that any logical, non-retarded person does: I do not get news from sources where I am required to endure a constant stream of dogshit in hopes of getting something relevant. No TV. No radio.

Which leaves...

...gasp...

...the internet.

Dipshit.

But that doesn't make sense. If you were reading the news on the internet, almost every single domestic and worldwide news source INCLUDING BBC world news has at least 1 top story on Ferguson, which means you aren't reading those either.

The top story on there is about Ferguson. It runs counter to his desire to remain willfully ignorant of internationally significant news, because obviously if the media is covering it, it must not be worth knowing about.

Holy FUCK you must just all be alt accounts; I refuse to believe that we have this many people on the forum who are not native English speakers.

Please quote the part where I said anything other than 'I am ignorant of the details of this YABlackWannabeThugGetsShotByCops case.' Specifically, the part where I said 'I am ignorant of all world news, because ignoring news sources that focus on sensationalizing this dumb shit means I must ignore all news sources in existence.'

Go ahead. Find the quote. I'll wait.

You realize you don't have to click all the links, right? You're reading the news; not trying to get some kind of completionist achievement in a video game.

But keep it up; I'm enjoying this. Really helps single out the morons. Because, you know, 'you can't possibly have any knowledge of any world events if you're not keeping up with the latest on Trayvon Jr' is totally the stance of a logical, coherent person.

In this case, when I said "internationally significant news," I specifically meant the Ferguson case, and I called it such because it's the top story not just on American media outlets, but international media outlets like the BBC and Al Jazeera as well. I apologize if you got the wrong impression from my comment.

That said, while I have no problem with people remaining willfully ignorant about things that simply don't interest them, when you cross the line from being ignorant to being proud of your ignorance and insulting people who don't share your desire to remain ignorant, you've entered the realm of "jackass." Why are you proud of not knowing something? I don't know how to cook because it never really appealed to me, but I don't go around saying, "Yeah, I can't cook for shit, and I'm damn proud of that!" That would be an absurd position to take. Similarly, saying "Who's this Ferguson Shooting fellow? I'm note [sic] even fucking kidding- I've heard something about blah blah someone was shot somewhere, and that's as much as I know. And I'm proud of that shit," makes you look like a needy jackass. If you don't have any interest in it, don't come into a thread about it and make a "HEY, LOOK AT ME, I DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT THIS AND THAT MAKES ME BETTER THAN YOU" post. What possible reaction could you expect from that?

If the reports that I heard were true, the Ukrainians destroyed an entire Russian armored column that they caught sneaking into the country while they were bringing in an aid shipment. What's even more interesting is that supposedly had help from the British to do so. That sure as hell sounds like a potential starting point to a world war to me!

That said, I had to learn about it on CNBC because all of the other cable news stations were too busy paying attention to people in Missouri who were looking for an excuse to go looting.

That's still nothing as far a WWIII goes. I don't think people realize how shitty Russia's military is. You want to know the reason Russia has not rolled into Ukraine? Because they know Ukraine's military alone would put up enough of a fight that they might not even succeed (and definitely wouldn't without extensive losses) and it could very well cost them Crimea (and a lot more if they push Europe and the US to more action). And yes there's a good chance the US and Europe would be aiding Ukraine a lot, but it wouldn't be with direct military involvement (well I don't doubt that we've got military advisors already assisting Ukraine, we're definitely aiding them with intelligence, and that would likely also go up, but we'd be sending supplies not troops).

Go read about when Russia tried to pull this shit in Georgia. They "won" that but got embarrassed by a military that in no way could compete with theirs (and that is substantially worse than Ukraine's).

This is all about playing bullshit games. Russia thinks they're "poking the bear" by aggravating the US and winning people over to their side (much like how they believed Sochi improved their status around the world, even though it by and large did the total opposite). Russia knows the US won't get directly involved in Ukraine, so they're acting like an elementary school kid shooting spitwads while the teacher has her back turned but knows the little shithead is doing it. Russia has nothing to gain and a lot to lose by invading Ukraine more than they have, but they're going to play games because they think it shows them standing up to the US.

I also think Russia is trying to provoke a response from Ukraine so that they can go crying to the UN. Sad thing is they're too stupid to realize that all the things they've done, such as them covering up shooting down a passenger jet has already killed any sympathy they'll get. But they think they'll play the same "games" as other countries do that gets the US on their side.

Marketplace is still on :^D NPR has had a bit on Ferguson on and off throughout the day, but it's been fairly intelligent, and not just regurgitating the obvious over and over.

You keep going to BurgerKing, and bitching about the burgers sucking. BurgerKing hasn't changed one iota in decades. You should probably go somewhere else. BurgerKing isn't changing ;^)

The story is being massively overcovered. Including by the news network I like, MSNBC.

On the other hand, it IS raising some important issues in ways they haven't been about the militarization of our police and the treatment of blacks by police.

That's a price I'm ok to pay, it's not easy to get issues such as those much attention.
