Forced Hard Drive Suspend?

Is it possible to manually force a hard drive to spin down? Are there any programs out there or any API calls that can do this? I have an old Western Digital Caviar 6.4gb that is REALLY noisy that I only have mp3's on that I'd like to be able to keep suspended when I'm not using it. I've set the hd suspend time at 15 minutes, but I don't want my main drive spinning down that much, as it's a 75gxp and I don't want to shorten it's already possibly short life. =p
