The demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has become the fastest on record to hit one million Xbox Live downloads, according to publisher LucasArts.

The demo was downloaded more than one million times in the eight days following its release, beating the previous record by one day, reports OXM.

It has now been downloaded more then 2.3 million times from Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

The Xbox 360 version of The Force Unleashed currently has a Metascore of 71 based on five reviews. It?s out on September 16 in North America and three days later in Europe for all major home and portable consoles.

LucasArts has also announced that a demo of terrain-deforming action title Fracture will launch on XBL and the PSN on September 18.

Too bad you went and fired everyone LucasArts!

Yeah, everyone downloaded the demo to see what it was about. I too wasn't impressed. Shoddy controls and iffy graphics. I'd give it ~ 7.0 as well.

Graphics were fine, but the controls are a bit difficult to get used to. I don't feel I'm far enough into the demo to get a sense of the gameplay yet. It is kind of fun to play the bad guy or the bad guy that decides to go good though. The dark side force powers are pretty cool too.

The game won't sell 1/4 as many copies as it was downloaded.

I was going to buy the game and was considering a double dip (360 for graphics and sound/Wii for interactivity). After playing the demo, I'm going to wait and purchase it used 4-6 months from now.

I would be willing to bet thousands of dollars that it will sell more than 600k units which is slightly more than 1/4 of the demo downloads. Let me know if you would like to lose a large chunk of change.

I said it months ago when the hype was starting and I'll say it again, Lucasarts does NOT know how to make a "closed course" (non-free roaming) action game. Every one I've played/seen has been a failure.

Only action games that have really wowed me were the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games.

I played the demo and enjoyed it. My son is IN LOVE with it though. He is only 5, but he keeps playing the demo over and over and over. I will be buying it for him and I to play.

Yeah, with it being on the PS3, the 360, the Wii, the PS2, the DS, and the PSP...it will sell well.

LOL...my son has a Cub Scouts thing where they get to go to an Atlanta Braves game, go out on the field, and take pictures with the players on the 20th. He's also got a soccer game that day. I went to the Braves website to see time the Braves game is that day and noticed a picture of Darth Vader for the game on the 16th. link. Tuesday is 2-for-1 night. I can't tell if they are doing any kind of special promotion for The Force Unleashed though.

edit: I started checking around to other MLB team sites and they all have the Darth Vader pic up for games on the 16th. I wonder what the heck is up with this.

If you hover over the pic it says "The Force Unleashed" so it's definitely something to do with the game.

Right. I just don't know if MLB is doing some kind of special promotion beyond advertising it like this. Darth Vader throwing out the first pitch at all the games? Free light sabers to the first 1000 attendees to each game?

edit: Found this at the MLB site. Got some silly stuff like "The Apprentice Award" and "Darth Vader Award".

I thought it was significantly worse than Jedi Knight II, which is saying something considering JKII came out six years ago.

Not just the sucky controls, but also the sucky gameplay mechanics. Can't block blasters while running? And what's with the blocking animation anyway? You just sit there twirling your lightsaber around and all the shots are magically deflected? Even JKII had a better system than that. Also, the lightsaber seems very weak. Again, JKII was better in that regard. One thing I liked about TFU was the force powers. Other than the difficult-to-aim push, it was pretty fun using them. In most other respects, though, it was no better than a much older game, or perhaps a recent B-rate third person action game reskinned to have a Star Wars theme.

2.3 million didnt WANT it to suck you mean. :)

Heh, probably the best way to say it, but it was unavoidable nonetheless.

I think what you guys are going to find is that this game sells like hot cakes to the younger generation of gamers. They don't care about the stuff being complained about around the web. They just love the fact that they can tear the hell out of everything with crazy force powers and pretty much feel like a Sith God. The rest is just petty details to them.
