I'm trying to hook up my HTPC to my television using a Radeon X1300 Pro. what I can't figure out how to do is display 1920x1080 using the CCC and the HDTV out on the card. The max res it will let me do is 1024x768 standard definition over a composite cable as opposed to component. What am I doing wrong? Where do I find the HDTV settings? A screenshot would be really helpful.

Thanks

With composite cables (CVBS) you're pretty much targetting a 480i signal. Higher resolutions will likely degrade to the point of being indistinguishable from lower ones. With component cables, though you're still analog, you can get 1080i. Ideally you should be sending a digital signal via DVI or HDMI at the native resolution of your TV.

The problem with sending a DVI or HDMI signal is that my A/V switcher only has component inputs. The TV will not do 1080p, and that doesn't bother me. I want/need analog output over component cables at 1080i. I understand the limitations of analog vs digital, I work in the film industry. I'm just having trouble with nVidia and ATi drivers. The way my HTPC is working currently is on XP MCE with a really old ForceWare (7x.xx, don't remember exactly) and that's fine, but I want to upgrade to Vista because I like the media center better, but the nVidia Vista drivers are not working correctly, and I can't figure out how to get the ATi drivers to work correctly.

I was also thinking about upgrading to a HD 2400Pro to get the VC-1 and h.254 decoding capabilities and getting myself an HD-DVD drive.

If you work in the film industry, why are you insisting on viewing an image that's been pushed through a DAC, ADC, and then interpolated? That's like prefering a VHS Pan and Scan over an anamorphic OAR DVD.

Install the latest Cats. In the CCC make sure you're in the Advanced View. Open up the TV / Display Properties item in the Graphics Setting box and under "HDTV Support" check the "Add 1080i30 to the Display Manager" box.
