Force Feedback. Essential? Plus reccommend a Joystick.

Hi.
I recently brought X2-The Threat, and after putting my midi header back on my Audigy1, i plugged in my 8 year old "QuickShot SuperWarrior" joystick, that i used to complete Tie Fighter.
Now. It works, reasonably well, a bit jittery though. But thats not the problem. My problem is that it only has 4 buttons. And to map most things to the joystick in X2, require at least 8 buttons. I really want to get into X2, but the complex mouse/keyboard/joystick control setup is really putting me off, and i feel if i can get it mapped to the Joystick(mostly), that i can enjoy the game far more than what i am doing.
So ive been looking around game.uk.com for joysticks, as i`ll be going manchester on sunday, and they have a big game store there;
What joystick would you reccommend, and is forcefeedback really needed?
Ive heard that the Saitek 3D Gold USB is a good joystick, and at £30, aint too expensive. Opinions?

Logitech, Microsoft, Saitek, any of those manufacture produce decent joystick. Joysticks are pretty much personal preference type of selection. Best bet is goto a store and play around with a few of them. Pick out ones that you feel most comfortable with. Durability wise, I had a Logitech stick that sort of worn out in 1-1.5 years. As for price, $30-35 tops for non-force feedback. $50-70 for force-feedback. Force-feedback is really fun at times, but most of the times, it feels gimmicky. (Also, it's sort of annoying when the jitters prevents you from making a aerial sniping shot).

Im traveling down to Stoke-On-Trent today. They have a really big PC World Store there, and i know that they do alot of joysticks.
Im looking for the Saitek Cyborg Evo as my primary choice, and if not that, the Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB.

That was a waste of a trip!.
PC World had only the Saitek 3D Rumble in, and some MS ones.
Game didnt have any. Neither did Argos.
I`ll have to order of Amazon then.
So;
What would you choose between the Evo and the 3D Gold?

if you want to save a bit you can go with the 3d gold USB, but if you want a stick thats adjustable w/ just a twist of a knob i would say go with the EVO.

Force feedback is good for realism, IMO. So, if you're playing Flight SIMULATOR then get force feedback. For arcade usage, force feedback is just a nusiance, IMO. Otherwise it comes down to features and the feel of the stick. I like the feel of my Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital but hate the feel of my Thrustmaster Top Gun (buttons have sharp edges causing discomfort after a while).

Been using the Evo extensivly in X2. And i can confidently say that its the best joystick that ive ever used. Playing with it in X2, is like have the controller as an extension of my body. Its that good.
