Force 2.1 to a receiver

Even though I have towers with dual 8" woofers the bass is still lacking with music. Anyway can I force the sub channel to kick in with the 2 front channels? I use winamp on my htpc and it's connected to a denon receiver using hdmi.

I've checked winamp settings, windows sound settings and surround modes on receiver but none will force a signal out to the sub.

You need to set these settings in the receiver.

Set your speakers to small. Set sub to YES if that option exists. Set the crossover accordingly - I don't know the specifications of your speakers but 80hz is a good starting point.

There should be a setting in the speaker setup menu for what info goes to the sub. It usually defaults to LFE when you set your fronts to large, but if you want to use the sub for sources that don't have a sub channel it needs to be set to LFE+Main or something along those lines. The Crossover setting will then determine how much of the signal you are going to send to the sub.

What receiver do you have?

Pages 28-30 of your receiver's owner's manual give you the answer, although the information I and CubanlB have given you pretty much covers it.
