Force 12X Burners to burn faster than 12X?

Yup as the topic says, I got a 12X CDRW drive that I would like to burn faster than 12X because its very slow. Its a sony burner and I dont have the model # with me at the moment, if required I can look it up.

I already have a liteon COMBO 52X Drive (So sweet) but this drive is for my friend and I want to see if I can force the burner to burn faster than 12x...
